Subject Details
Module 1: Introduction to IC Engines
History, components, classification. Cycle analysis: Otto, Diesel, Dual cycles. Real cycles and fuel-air cycles.
Module 2: Combustion in SI Engines
Spark ignition, stages of combustion, flame propagation, factors affecting flame speed, abnormal combustion: knocking, knock inhibitors, octane rating.
Module 3: Combustion in CI Engines
Compression ignition, stages of combustion, delay period, factors affecting delay period, diesel knock, cetane rating, cold starting.
Module 4: Fuel and Air Supply Systems
SI engines: Carburetion, fuel injection systems. CI engines: Injection systems, nozzles, governors. Supercharging and turbocharging.
Module 5: Performance and Testing
Parameters: BP, IP, FP, efficiency, fuel consumption. Testing methods: Morse test, heat balance sheet. Emission control and norms.
Module 6: Future IC Engines
Alternative fuels: CNG, LPG, Biodiesel, Hydrogen. Hybrid vehicles and electric vehicle transition.

Definition, types of automation, reasons for automating, automation principles and strategies.
Module 2: High Volume Production Systems
Transfer lines, buffers, analysis of automated flow lines. Assembly systems: manual and automated assembly lines.
Module 3: Numerical Control (NC)
Fundamentals of NC, NC part programming, DNC, CNC, Adaptive control.
Module 4: Industrial Robotics
Robot anatomy, configurations, control systems, applications in manufacturing, robot programming.
Module 5: Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS)
FMS components, workstations, material handling systems, computer control, planning and implementation.
Module 6: Control Systems in Automation
Sensors, actuators, PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA systems.

Module 4: Vapour Absorption System
Simple vapour absorption system, practical vapour absorption system, LiBr-water system, Electrolux refrigerator.
Module 5: Psychrometry
Psychrometric properties, psychrometric chart, psychrometric processes: sensible heating/cooling, humidification/dehumidification, evaporative cooling.
Module 6: Air Conditioning Systems
